Therapeutic Cupping:
Cupping is an ancient therpeutic practice from China and offers many unusual benefits. It is most typically utilized to speed up the healing process, but is also used to treat a variety of health conditions. At Awakening Balance, we will often use cupping along with an acupuncture treatment to break up stagnation deep within the tissue, particularly in the back and neck regions. This allows for increased blood flow to the pain points that promotes healing by opening up blocked meridian channels and improving the immune system. Athletes will use cupping to reduce muscle tightness and cramping as well as to enhance their overall performance and reduce stress. Click here for more on cupping.

Allergy Treatments:
Allergy Elimination or “Allergy Deprogramming”, is an acu-stimulation treatment that provides permanent relief from an allergic reaction. In its simplest form, allergy elimination consists of stimulating classical acupuncture points on the body while the patient holds the allergen in their hand. One of the benefits of acu-stimulation is that it is not necessary to use acupuncture needles to stimulate the points on the body for allergy elimination to work. Before prescribing treatment, the practitioner uses techniques such as muscle testing or Applied Kinesiology (AK) to pinpoint the specific patient allergies. (More information)

Moxibustion:
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, moxibustion is often used to break up stagnation. Moxibustion is a technique that involves the burning of an herb called, Mugwort, and is used to expediate healing by stimulating the flow of qi energy. At Awakening Balance, we more commonly use Moxa with our acupuncture needles. The herb is applied to the top of the needle and then ignited, generating heat to the meredian point being treated. Chinese Herbal Prescriptions:
Chinese Herbs are regularly part of treating the whole patient accompanied with acupuncture. However, herbal prescriptions can be prescribed without acupuncture. Herbal consultations and prescriptions are a very important healing modality as acupuncture in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Our outstanding herbal sources allow us to formulate safe and effective prescriptions that will not interfere with conventional pharmaceutical drugs. Herbs are powerful substances that have recently been controlled by our FDA here in the United States. Some insurance companies are willing to pay not only for acupuncture but for Traditional Chinese Herbs. We would be happy to check on this for you.
